Spanning the centuries, Music for Guitar, Lute and Vihuela explores the repertoires of these instruments from the 16th century Renaissance onwards. In step with music at large their legacies encapsulated the melodic inclinations, harmonies and stylistic traits of their day. Dance settings, variations on topical tunes and songs take turn; then for the enduring guitar, studies, sonatas and ensemble participations are traced through and onward to innovative idioms from recent times. Delving into the musical seams of the guitar, lute and elusive Spanish vihuela, a treasury of compositions come to light. Shaped and pinpointed in pitch notation, they are conveyed aurally as well with clips of their soundings.
